Surprise! Woman Wakes From Coma To Meet Newborn Son
By Dave Reynolds, Inclusion Daily Express

ST. HELENS, ENGLAND--Joanne Roberts had not been feeling well.

And just before she had a seizure and fell into a coma, Roberts thought she might have tonsillitis.

But when she came out of the coma some days later, she found she had something much more serious: A baby boy.

"I thought someone was pulling my leg and dumping their baby on me," she told the BBC about her son, Luke. "Until I was out of the coma I had no idea I was pregnant."

Roberts, 32, had believed she could not get pregnant because of injuries she received during a car crash as a teenager.

When Roberts was rushed to the hospital after her seizure, doctors immediately discovered she was pregnant. They also found that she had pre-eclampsia, a condition of hypertension which can be dangerous to both the mother and baby.

The doctors delivered Luke early by Caesarean section. Staff needed to revive the 4 pound, 1 ounce boy right after he was born.

The BBC did not indicate when Luke was born, nor how long his mother was in the coma before meeting her son for the first time.

"It's lovely. It's really nice. I'd never really thought about having a family before," she said.
