Potential Is There For Higher Employment Rate

WASHINGTON, DC--The Salt Lake Tribune ran a Gannett News Service article last week with the promising title: "Disabled making gains in jobs".

The article pointed out, however, that a recent Harris poll found about 35 percent of people with disabilities of working age are employed. That's pretty much unchanged from a similar poll done 18 years ago.

It appears that the potential for "making gains" does exist.

The same poll showed that the percentage of adults with disabilities who have high school diplomas has nearly doubled over the same time period, and that many more are attending college to become professionals.
