Former City Worker Settles Suit Over Bathroom Breaks
By Dave Reynolds, Inclusion Daily Express
December 1, 2005

MUSKEGO, WISCONSIN--Former emergency dispatcher Laura A. Becker has agreed to settle a lawsuit with the city of Muskego over her claims that it violated her rights under the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act.

Becker filed a complaint against Muskego's Police and Fire Commission in February of this year accusing the police department of prohibiting her from having access to the restroom because of her overactive bladder. She later filed a suit claiming, in a separate case, that the city violated her privacy rights by televising her disciplinary hearing on local access television.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the city does not admit to any wrongdoing under the terms of the settlement and Becker agreed to drop all of her claims against the city. Becker also agreed to apologize for accusing a police captain of tampering with a tape-recorded conversation she had with a supervisor in which she claimed she was denied a restroom break.

Under the agreement, Becker will receive $39,000 in compensation, nearly one-fourth of which would go to her attorney.
