"Disabled Climbers Soaring As They Break Barriers"
December 23, 2005

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK--The following four paragraphs are excerpts from a story in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle:

Now that Kevin Figler has tackled the wall at Rock Ventures' climbing gym, he has other activities on his life list to check off.

"Sky diving, bungee jumping, parasailing, hot-air ballooning," the 45-year-old Figler blurts out.

Anita O'Brien smiles as she hears -- for the umpteenth time -- all the adventurous things Figler would like to do. Odds are, if he does them, she won't be far away.

Figler has cerebral palsy. He is one of the people with disabilities who is participating in the Center for Disability Rights' Outdoor Exposure program. Experiences such as indoor gym rock climbing, scuba diving in a pool, horseback riding, kayaking, and aquatics are on the to-do list during the next year, thanks to a $150,000 three-year grant through Center for Disability Rights acquired from the United States Department of Education Rehabilitation Service Administration.
