Five-Year-Old Uses Walker To Pass Ballet Exam

CHEDDLETON, ENGLAND--Five-year-old Tilly Griffiths has passed her first ballet exam.

"I felt very happy when I passed," she told the Mirror.

While it certainly is a quite an accomplishment for Tilly, it could mean a new beginning for girls and boys with disabilities in Britain who are interested in dance.

Tilly has spinal muscular atrophy and uses a wheelchair. Her father has adapted a walker for her to use when she dances.

The British Ballet Organization gave Tilly's teacher, Jeannette Corbishley, permission to let the girl take her first exam by interpreting the ballet moves her own way.

According to its website, the organization advocates "dance for all" and provides "support and encouragement to dance students of all ages, experience and abilities. Its syllabus with specially composed music, develops artistic, physical and expressive qualities."
