Candidates Address Disability Issues At First National Presidential Forum
By Dave Reynolds, Inclusion Daily Express
November 2, 2007

MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE--Eight presidential candidates or their representatives spoke Friday to a crowd of about 600 voters with disabilities and their allies in what is being called the first national, cross-disability forum of its kind.

The event was hosted by Granite State Independent Living and was sponsored by more than 20 national disability organizations.

Those speaking at the event included Democratic candidates Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Senator Joe Biden, Senator Chris Dodd, Representative Dennis Kucinich and former Senator Mike Gravel. Former Senator John Edwards sent his campaign manager, former U.S. Representative David Bonior, to deliver a statement on his behalf.

Republican Senator John McCain addressed the crowd by telephone phone.

The candidates talked about their plans that they said would benefit Americans with disabilities.

Most also spoke about their personal or family experiences with disabilities.
